When we moved into our present bakery premises, the unit that we took over looked out across a small area of shrubs and ornamental planting, bounded by iron railings. We’ve transformed this patch into a fertile and abundant vegetable garden that provides a variety of produce for the café. Now you will find herbs and salad leaves, winter vegetables and towering artichokes amongst the crab apple trees, all of which take a short hop into our kitchen and are used in our menu offerings throughout the year. None of this would be possible without our gardening maestro, Michael Blake, who has selflessly provided the inspiration, planning and labour needed to create such a green and enticing space. Michael has been a patron and supporter of the Handmade Bakery since we baked our very first loaves. Thank you, Michael.
